Mary Ellen Wechter, MD, MPH
Board Certified – American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Dr. Wechter is a native of Michigan and completed both undergraduate education and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed fellowship training in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery and robotics at the University of North Carolina in 2006 where she stayed on as faculty to start her first Fibroid Care Clinic. She also completed a Master degree in Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina’s School of Public Health.
Dr. Wechter and her family came to Jacksonville in 2008 when her husband, a Tampa native, was recruited to the Mayo Clinic for a position in Mohs surgery. She also joined Mayo, pursuing her passion for service to women in the areas of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and robotics, fibroid care, vulvar diseases, and research in surgical outcomes, fibroids, and OR safety. Dr. Wechter left Mayo at the end of 2010 to pursue a healthy change in her career and life direction with the Baptist I Division of North Florida OB/GYN.
Dr. Wechter met her delightful husband at Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. They have an active, informal beach lifestyle filled with two beautiful, bilingual children and a sweet black Labrador. They spend their free time at the beach or traveling.
