PA (Physician Assistant)
A PA is a "Physician Assistant." This professional works under the direct supervision of a physician complementing medical care, including conducting physical exams, diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting tests, assisting in surgery, writing prescriptions, and counseling on wellness and preventive care. (Medical Assistants perform simple clinical tasks under direct supervision of a physician and/or other health professionals.)
ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) and CNM (Certified Nurse Midwives)
An ARNP is an "Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner." This professional is a nurse with advanced practice skills who has completed graduate-level education (Masters or Doctorate degree) with specific training and certification in the diagnosis and management of common as well as complex medical conditions. In addition, each certification requires specific licensing, continuing education, and examination of the highest degree. Specialties within ARNP designations include CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists), CNM (Certified Nurse Midwives), CNP (Certified Nurse Practitioners), and CNS (Certified Nurse Specialists).
